Eyam Museum

Not far from Bakewell and a great choice for a trip out from the town is the village of Eyam, whose history has fascinated visitors for centuries.
When the Great Plague struck Eyam in 1665, the villagers made the extraordinary sacrifice of isolating themselves in order to prevent the spread of this terrible disease. This story is the central theme of Eyam Museum, which also tells the story of the village from prehistory to the present.
Eyam and its museum are ideal for a family day out from Bakewell. The main public car park, with toilet facilities, lies directly opposite the museum, and a free car park lies behind and above the Council car park.
