Bakewell Farmers Markets take place on the last Saturday of each and every month and is a multi-award winning event, now the second largest in the UK
Set up by the Foods from the Peak District project - cafes, restaurants, hotels and bed-and-breakfasts all contribute and all take pride in offering local produce for visitors to purchase.
For those with a taste for the past, they often feature foods of yesteryear including lumpytums (oatballs in milk), Buxton pudding and posset, but also showcase many other types of locally grown, reared and manufactured produce. From Bakewell puddings to Hartington cheese and Ashbourne gingerbread - the Peak District has a vast array of very distinctive produce and the success of these businesses helps boost employment and the local economy.
In addition many producers hold the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark for businesses which support the National Park's natural assets, or receive financial support from the New Environmental Economy programme.
